January 9th:
Jury Day

FINAL

The culmination of all our hard work—a chance to present our installation to the jury and share the story behind our project.

The big day had finally arrived—a moment we had been preparing for over weeks of hard work and collaboration. The morning started with the final setup of our installation. We focused on perfecting every detail, making sure everything was ready for the big reveal. We also ran a few last-minute tests and rehearsed our performance to ensure that everything would flow smoothly during the presentation.

With everything in place, we took a well-deserved break for lunch and prepared ourselves for the jury moment. Excitement and a bit of nervousness filled the air as we dressed up, ready to showcase our work.

At 3 PM, it was showtime. The jury entered the space, and with a single press of a button by one of the members, the installation came to life.

The sand began to flow, the lights turned on, and the audio started as Helena began her slam poetry performance. The installation showed important moments in a person’s life, represented in an abstract way by a stream of sand falling to the ground. This sand symbolized the life of an abstract person, and it all began when the jury pressed the button.

Helena performed her poetry in five rounds. In each round, the jury had to choose one card out of three options. Their choices changed the story of the abstract person’s life. Based on the cards chosen, Yentle and Ine interacted with the sand. Yentle removed sand, symbolizing people who take something from you or lift a burden from your shoulders. Ine added sand, representing people who bring something into your life or leave their impact on you. These actions showed how outside forces—positive and negative—can shape a person’s life in ways they can’t control.

Pinar controlled the audio, changing it to match the story and the key moments. The sounds grew faster, slower, more intense, or calmer, depending on what was happening. Sara managed the flow of sand, symbolizing the person’s life. She adjusted the stream by adding or reducing the sand to match the story created by the jury’s choices.

This combination of poetry, sand, and sound turned the space into a living story, shaped by outside influences and key decisions.

The jury presentation was complete, and we received amazing feedback. The jury members were speechless—a reaction that perfectly matched our goal. We had only hoped to create this kind of impact but never expected to achieve it so beautifully.

They were deeply moved and impressed by the experience, exactly the effect we wanted to create. Our installation encouraged them to think and reflect on their own lives, which was the ultimate purpose of our work. Seeing their reactions was incredibly rewarding and a testament to the power of our collaborative effort.

Here is the video of our installation in action. Unfortunately, the view is partially blocked by a jury member standing in front of the camera. Despite this, we’re happy to have captured a glimpse of our performance and the atmosphere we worked so hard to create.
